transporting a boat...

i friend recently paid 20k ++ to have a boat shipped from vancouver BC to seattle (50' boat mind you). prices are going up fast for this service

Ok, have to ask........why did they dry ship a boat from vancouver to Seattle? you're talking max 1-1.5 days to move it down here at 5-6 knots! Assuming it floated and motored etc, a 2-4 person crew would have been cheaper.

From the east coast, depending upon road hieght/widh of boat, if you need pilot cars etc, 8-12G seems to be the going rate. Possibly a bit more for larger rigs.

The Far Harbor 40 would fit...it was designed to fit into a standard shipping container.

well it actually took 2 days even though it is not a long drive. the boat was a bit north of vancouver (dont know where exactly), they were only allowed on the road during certain hours of the night because of size of the boat, and had to clear customs, ect.

Florida to Michigan estimates this spring were $6500 to $8500 for a 42' X 13' boat.

Check into M & N Transportation, Inc.- Nationwide Boat Transportation they are located in SE Mich and are highly recommended

Earlier this year (after the run-up in gas/diesel prices), we spent $1,700 transporting a 34', 12,000 lb boat approximately 350 miles between Cleveland and Chicago. We had a lower quote (approximately $1,500) and several much higher quotes (the highest was approximately $2,400). Based upon the foregoing, some of the transport costs I've seen guessed in previous responses are probably not to far off.

As an aside, we used the company recommended in the prior response (M&N Transportation) and were pleased with the service. We had regular updates from the driver and no damage. I should mention that I have no relationship with M&N, economic or otherwise.
