Pearson 36 Sloop

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in purchasing a Pearson 365 and came across a older 1976 Pearson 36 sloop. I plan on using it as a family cruiser in Florida/Bahamas. I can not find any good information on these models. Can anyone give me some pros and cons compared to the 365?

Thanks,

A friend had one of those for several years. A nice boat. Basically a larger version of the Pearson 30 and 10M of the same vintage. The 365 has a larger interior but the 36 is a better sailing boat. It would be a good choice for what you propose.

as jim says, the 36 will be a better sailing performer than the 365, which is a straight out cruiser-- heavy but with lots of room below. I also suggest joining the yahoo pearson group and asking your question there--several 36 and 365 owners on that list.

Pearson Info

Try looking at pearsoninfo.net website
for info on all the Pearsons. We have a 323 and love her. As with all 30 year old boats a survey is most important, but almost all the Pearsons started out with good designs and solid construction. Good luck.

I have a friend who has one, loves it and has raced it with good success in PHRF races. The one thing that he mentioned is that there was a problem with the keel on this 70s era model and it may need to be reinforced in some manner. I think there was an incident where one fell off, which obviously is not something you want to happen. But he loved the boat overall.

As I recall---what Jim said. The P36 is a sailboat, the P365 is a sailboat with a main salon big enough for a pool table. If you cruise from port to port and spend a lot of time IN port not sailing, the P365 is the better choice. If you plan to be out sailing, the P36 is the better boat for you.

The P365 sails perfectly well, I've been out on both. They're just aimed at different markets. Generally, more room below = less sailing ability for the same length boat.

I agree, my best friend and sailing buddy of over 30 years bought a '79 365 new at the Houston In-the-Water-Boat-Show and we sailed it (and my Bristol) all over the Gulf from New Orleans to Brownsville, Galveston to Vera Cruz, etc. for some 25 years. Comfortable, roomy boat and good in a blow. We got caught in more than one big storm in her and never worried for the boat.
The 36 is probably as good??, but if you're a cruiser (not a round the bouys guy) the 365 is a great choice.
