capndave9415 is on a distinguished road
Smile capndave9415

Hi folks,
I'm a new member. My wife I currently sail our 24 ft. Islander, Bahama in and around the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. We are looking to live aboard a somewhat larger vessel and travel south, for starters, with occasional ventures out into the Atlantic. We have been sailing for 15 years. We love our Islander, Bahama, "PATRONUS," but find him a bit cramped for extensive stays.
I have an opportunity to bid on a 1963 Seafarer 28. I will go over it thoroughly before bidding but wonder what the general view is of this type and make of sailboat; seakindly, speed, roominess, solidly built, how does it handle in rough weather and what the approximate value is, if it is in good condition.
I hope there are some Seafarer owners out there that can enlighten me.

Thank you for your time and information.

Sincerely,
Dave Gallus

Welcome Dave...good to have you aboard. I can't tell you anything about seafarers of that age, but would suggest that if your intent is to sail south as a couple in a live aboard mode...you will find 28' quite cramped. There's a good sticky thread at the top of this forum on bluewater boats and you might want to consider some of those if the open Atlantic is in your plans...or just some of the older but larger production boats if the ICW will be more your style.
