Small Boat for the USVI?

Hello Everyone!

I am looking for some information in regard to what type of relatively small sailboats would be acceptable in the USVI. I'd like a boat in the 24 - 28' range, but would still consider something slightly larger. The boat will be kept on a mooring in the St. Thomas area and would be used for weekend cruising around the islands (including the BVI) and most likely would not be used for extended cruises. The girlfriend requires some creature comforts, so nothing too spartan. I have a Coastal Cruising certification and will be working on my bareboat in the near future. Which leads me to my second question. Can anyone tell me what type of boat is on the front of the ASA sailing membership card? The gal likes the appearance of that particular boat for some reason or other. Thanks in advance for your replies!

Best Regards,

Simcik

Given the girlfriend is an important factor, I'd say you probably need to be looking at 28-34' boats instead. Most boats below 28' are going to be very tight for two people. If she wants a separate shower, you're going to be up by 34' more than 28'... since showers are fairly rare on smaller sailboats.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Hi there Simcik,

I have a 36ft Pearson 365 ketch for sale lying in St. John. It is very comfortable for 2 people. It has a separate shower stall which I think your girl would like. Let me know if you are interested kjshatzer@hotmail.com.
