a friend has a 1974 Seafarer for sale that he think i should own, Newbie to bigger boat than a 16' and this one is a 24'. Will we still be friend next year? Help me to know the boat and if i can move it on a 17' flat bed trailer to get it home for the winter. Frist tell me if this would be a good boat for a newbie?

How good a friend is he... a really good friend won't try to sell you a boat if its got issues... a bad friend might try and pawn a lemon off on you... In the first case, you'll still be friends, in the second, why would you want to be?

A Seafarer 24 should be a pretty nice upgrade for you. A 17' flat bed trailer is a bit on the short side for it...since you'd have almost a third of the boat hanging off the trailer...probably the aft 1/3 where most of the weight of the boat would be in many cases...leaving the trailer horribly unbalanced and the boat precariously perched.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

We have a 24' Seafarer. Nice little boat. Great to learn on...fairly forgiving. It's actually heading out this week, to make room for our new boat.

When we move her, we have a commercial boat transport company come in with a hydraulic trailer. Not sure how you would get it on and off a flatbed (unless you use a crane).

The boat displaces around 3900lbs. Both the length and weight might be too much for a 17' flatbed.

If you can get a heavy duty sailboat trailer, rated for that weight & size, and can get her on...you can tow it with a good pickup truck. Otherwise, get a commercial transport.

Info on the Seafarer 24':
