Though Newports' build quality has been questioned by some, there are certainly many of them around and good ones will serve just fine in sheltered coastal cruising waters.

The 41 is a C&C design, somewhat narrower than other C&Cs of that era, but by all accounts a pretty nice boat if you set aside the reduced volume below (esp compared to today's offerings)

Around here they rate around 105PHRF, and seemed to sail to that rating just fine in their heyday. Today I think you'll find it's a reasonably priced, relatively well behaved cruiser/racer in that size range. Given the era and the rig dimensions, though, deep downwind in a big breeze (esp with a kite up) they will be a bit hard to handle.

This is a boat that has nice lines and is easy on the eyes.
