Wanted: Hinckley,Swan,J105,BeneHunterCat
Now that I got your attention :
I wish I could afford a Hinckley ( I am not afraid of brightwork, yes I would like the challenge )
I wish I could afford a Swan ( just because they are awesome boats )
I wish it would sail like a J 105
I wish to have room like a modern Beneteau/Hunter/Catalina
I wish she would have a phrf close to the 100 mark.
Did I mention, that she better has a shoal draft, and can be sailed with 2 persons, that she has enough room to live-on ( even for 3 months at a time ) and of course one minor point is the limited financial resources I have. Lets say not more than 75.000 ( after a few things are repaired or brought up to safety standards, which probably leaves the selling price around 60.000 )
The boat length should be around 32 to 40 feet.
If everything fails a used charter catamarane like a Fountain Pajot Tobago or maybe a PDQ 36 ( although too expensive) is on the short list.
Maybe I would like a contessa 36 , although the room inside is a little small ....
ok guys and gals, steer me into the right direction .....
Thanks Thorsten

Purchasing the ultimate boat is a series of compromises. A boat that encompasses all of the items on your wish list does not exist given the range of the price you stated. If it did we would all own one! A better approach to finding the right vessel would be to make a reasonable list of the desired parameters and talk to a broker, they don''t bite! Jeff has in many past posts made lists of boats you could consider; why not browse the history of this BB. That my sailing friend is my point.

Price is always a limiting factor as mentioned above. If what you are looking for is a coastal crusier vs a Bluewater boat I would look at a 94-94 catalina 320. We just sold a oday 322 and it was pretty much a great boat with the exception of the sleeping arrangements for my wife and I. The 320 is even bigger with a large aft stateroom. She sail OK for a shoal draft and for living aboard if you add canvas she is pretty comfortable.
Again: If bluewater is what you are looking for disregard post!!!!!

Thanks Mogul11
I think I want a borderline bluewater capable boat. Plans to go to the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico and the rest of the Caribik while the summer home of the boat will be the westcoast of Florida.
There is no circumnavigation in our plans though. Nethertheless, withoust starting a whole new discussion, I dont like the CatalinaBeneteauHunter line that much. ( Nothing wrong with them, just that I rather have an older boat.
For Denr
isnt dreaming a big part of our lifestyle. So lighten up a bit.
Of course I have read the boats Jeff has suggested and I think I getting closer with his help ...
I do have a few parameters however, which other people seem to shy away from ( not afraid of getting an older boat, not afraid of teak and brightwork )
as for Jeff
I am following your great suggestions with interest, and it wouldnt surprise me, when I am ending up with a boat on your short list after all.
I am also looking at the taiwanesse built boats. I understand though that there are significant differences in quality and workmanship with Taiwanese built boats.
Help me out, what Taiwan boat is good and what boat I should look away....
I understand that the 100 phref would be lost
with such a boat. But maybe there is a compromise between price, performance and quality, which I havent found yet ...
I still like the Contessa a lot, only problem is the draft and the somewhat small interieur room ...
Tartan 33 sounds nice ...
lets rip folks .... any ideas ???

Thorsten,
Last night I used my old trick of going to Yachtworld and seaching for 32-40 footers in a price range of $50-65K -- left the year and manufacturer name blank. The system had over 700 hits. Some highlights of boats that popped up, in no particular order --
Gaggles of C&Cs of various lenghts, including some Landfall 38''s.
Allied Mistress
Cal 39
Morgan 382
Pearson 40, 39, 385, 365, 33, 34
Tartan 37, 34
Sabre 34, 32
Freedom 32
Hallberg-Rassy 35
Niagara 35
Some classic boats in that list, and some not so classic. Ones I suggest checking out: Pearson 40, 39, 385, 365 (note--I own a Pearson!), Tartan 37, 34
Sabre 34, Niagara 35, Freedom 32 (sort of quirky looking, but has a huge following).
You also might find a J-34c in that price range. Also look for a J-37c, but it probably would cost too much. Both are nice cruisers and will perform pretty well. Problem is that not many were made, and I didn''t spot any in my Yachtworld search.
Anything in that list interest you?

Your eyelids are getting heavy, you are feeling sleepy... when you awake you will start shopping for a C&C
I am Far, far, far from an expert, but that''s what I ended up with. Read everything you can about them. Look at as many as you can. They don''t all get great reviews, (Landfall''s and those that have wood cored hulls I would stay away from.)
Now Denr can yell at me because I have not been sailing for 510 yrs, single hand the Mayflower over and yet I am giving out advise.

Having sailed on a number of C&Cs I think they''re fairly good boats. A C&C would probably be a reasonable choice. I have no problem with those that recommend a good boat. Just don''t piss on my shoes and tell me it''s raining outside by recommending a Benehuntalina.
