A boat for Bermuda and the Caribbean

I am looking for a boat to take me to Bermuda, then the Caribbean for a year of cruising with my girlfriend. I started looking a few months ago figuring it would give me all winter to outfit the boat and some leverage with owners trying to avoid winter storage bills. I am looking for a boat comfortable to live aboard for a year and safe enough to make the crossing to Bermuda. I am not worried about performance.

I found this Pearson 365 and was wondering if anyone would recommend (or not recommend) this boat for what I am thinking about doing. Also, what price would represent a "good deal" for this boat. They are asking 39,500 but I think it could be had for less.

Thanks,

I just bought a Beneteau First 38 for the reasons you mentioned and it was about 10K more than the boat you are thinking about getting, plus it has new 16,000 btu A/C, hot water heater, and reefer, new sails, all the electronics and a swim platform with shower. The point is...... There are deals to be found out their. The Pearson has not got very much room but enough for you and your Chick. I would much rather have a sloop rig also but the 365 seems to be in well cared for shape. Good luck and see you in the Islands.

I think it would be a fine boat for your plans and it looks to be extremely well loved from the photos. Be sure to get a good survey and a separate look at the engine by a diesel mechanic.
This boat is what i would call a "tweener"...not really built for blue water voyaging but built better than many production boats. Hence it is suitable for a trip to Bermuda at the RIGHT time of year and with a good long term forcast when captained by a competent crew with some blue water miles under their belt.
I suggest that if that experience factor does not describe YOU...then you may want to work your way down the coast on a few passages before jumping off around Norfolk for Bermuda once you feel comfortable.
I think the boat can be a very nice couples live-aboard in the Bahamas and Caribe. Good luck!
