Advise needed !

Looking at moving to a 30 ft. or so boat for Great Lakes cruising.
So far 3 have caught my eye. Aside from individual boat condition, I would appreciate thoughts on ( all mid 70's boats)
Tartan 30, Ericson 29, Newport 30 MK2
Thanks

Of those I like the Tartan. Good quality build, sleek design, great engine access (though you have an Atomic 4 in the middle of your cabin which some folks won't like).

Of those three the Newport is probably the weaker sister.. but I'd consider either of the other two. Keep an open mind on some others too, though, such as a C&C 30, C&C 29MkI, C&C 32, Viking 33 (a little less room perhaps but oh-so-pretty), Ontario 29, esp as you're in an area close to where these were all built!!

I would also mention that THE ADMIRAL and I just decided on a Pearson 31-2 specifically for Finger Lakes and Great Lakes cruising for just the two of us (and a dog).

You might want to take a look at this thread, too, where I asked a similar question (but based on Lake Erie). I'm also now looking at a nice-looking Tartan 30. I hope that maybe it isn't the same one that you're looking at, since I still have to convince my wife to go a little over our initial budget for this one.

Here's a link to the other thread:
