Offer made- Begin anxious waiting!

5 days after seeing a boat I really like, I called the broker this afternoon. I leveled with him, and told him I had wanted a boat with some work to do (but not a 'project boat', and my budget reflects that. This boat is almost turn-key, and not outrageously priced. I made an offer almost 25% below asking, and we'll see.

I must say that I was impressed with the broker's response to my offer, and my pitch of it. We'll see.

Excited. Nervous. I want an Ummpa-Lumpa NOW Daddy!!!

Good luck how about some more details. What is it? What's up with the Pearson. That's a nice boat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Tonic-

I'll let the Pearson go once her replacement is in place. She is, indeed, a wonderful boat. But frankly, we out-grew her quickly- specifically on our first two week summer cruise. And she's even a bit tight for the 'weekend home' we tried to use her as.

The offer is out on an O'Day 35.

Best of luck. I like the larger O'Days. Very nice boats.

Worst the owner can say is "no". And if he comes back with a "yes" you're way ahead, or even a counter to begin some horse trading. I notice brokers aren't much keen on negotiation back-and-forth but it is a viable way to do business.

Hi Ed,

Congratulations on finding a good boat and good luck with the offer. Which boat did you bid on?

I bought my O'day 35 this time of year in 2006. I first saw it on Yachtworld Nov 6, and made an offer. I saw the boat for the first time Nov 10, had the survey done Nov 17, and close on the boat and sailed her home Nov 27.

Almost two years later I am very happy with my choice and with the O'day 35.

Keep in touch,
Barry

Charlie- The selling broker seemed glad to get an offer, ever one lower than he'd of liked. He did tell me where he thought the seller's bottom is, and there's a good gap between us. We'll see...

Barry- She's the one in Middle River, MD. Where did you bring yours home from? Hopefully I'll have a cold, late fall trip coming up.

Good luck! Hang in there. We're currently in the same boat (not literally of course).

What do you mean by this comment? Must be a story behind it.
