One of the users here just bought an Ericson, IIRC a 39, and sailed it to Oz from SFO...

BTW, the reviews are by Jack HORNOR, not HORTON. Here's his review of the Ericson 38.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The Ericson Forum at ericsonyachts.org has a download section with many of the original manuals and specs.

I looked at an E39 earlier this year. It initially seemed like a good deal, going for $12k. However, the boat had deck leaks around all portlights and subsequent water damage to the galley and other interior wood. I also didn't care for the flush-deck look. I've heard at least one E39 has made it around the globe, but I've heard of another that had major problems while offshore. I think it was a rudder or keel issue.

Anyway, I passed on the boat.

I dont have the E39 but an E39B which is one of 20 made from the last of the E39 moulds. It has the same hull but a different deck, interior and tankedge. A strong built boat (overbuiit) many have sailed the world. Of interest is one called Mavrick (or similar), that split just in front of the keel across the hull. the only negative I could find in the E39/B same hull, is it does not like going dead down wind but this has to do with its racing heratige.

The Erickson owners site is excellent, and I have found the owners most helpful.
