hi folks, a real newbie here with a tale to tell...i live in cozumel mexico. there is a sailboat here, abandoned by the owner, who left the country owning port fees, etc...the boat is sinking at the dock. i would like to buy it and refurbish it as a hobby project. my first boat. any advice on where to look for documentation? the supposed owner claims the paperwork was all stolen from his car. irwin 38.2, 1882 model, trashed, no motor, no electronics.... view the uscg doc page at:

If you pay more than $200 consider buying an interest in the Brooklyn bridge. (I can provide a lead). On the otherhand if you are a novelist with writer''s block this will give you enough material for a number of books.
How well do you know the Mexican legal system? Clear title sound like one volume in your saga.
Do you ever plan on bringing it stateside or sell it to someone who wants to.
Then again people have done stranger things...

Good Luck Todd

The boat is probably big enought that it was documented at one time or another. Try the US Coast Gaurd. You can do alot on line now days.
