Swing Keel or Fixed Keel for Caribbean Sailing

Hello,

I am interested in buying a boat and taking off down to the Caribbean to sail around for a couple of years. I have been looking at a few boats to buy but am confused as to which would be better for the Caribbean a swing keel or fixed keel. Would I need the extra stability that a fixed keel provides or what are the usual depths of the water down there? I am sure this is something that most of you have experience with. Please share with me your thoughts and experiences.

I have owned both full keel and swing keel boats and my wife has informed me that I prefer the comfort and security that a full keel provides. For most of the Caribbean depth should not be an issue. I have only been to the Bahamas and there were a few times when I really was glad we only drew about 4 feet. Good luck!
