Freedom 36 Carbon Fibre Mast

As you may know from previous posts I am interested in Freedom 36 sailboats and am told that one of the disadvantages of the mast is that if it breaks it is very expensive to replace. Two questions:

1. Where would you even get a replacement mast and
2. Any idea of the cost or where I could get an answer to this.

Have you ever heard of one breaking? I haven't. I'm not sure if Freedom would still build one, but I would start there first.

Rare, but carbon fiber masts do break. An older Freedom lost one of it's masts in the last Bermuda 1-2. Very expensive part to replace!

I have not heard of one breaking but the posts do talk about the expense of replacing one. Hence I assumed that there were some instances. I wil check but I had also heard that Freedom was no longer in business.

Aluminum masts are fairly expensive to replace, too. Normally a catastrophic mast failure would be covered by insurance, no?

Hall Spars might be a good source of info on replacement costs.

You really have to read the fine print as many insurance companys will take a your mast does NOT last forever POV and at some age start to pro-rate coverage
