I have never sailed a Lancer 42, but the smaller Lancers that I have been on have been marked by well worse than medicre build quality and in the case of the later Lancers (which would include this model) very gimmicky designs that compromised their sailing ability. In other words, this would be the worng boat for your purpose. There is a very good reason these boats are often on the market with cheap asking prices.
