We are in process of surveying a 381.

We plan to sail mostly in LI Sound and coastal waters here. Are there any owners who can share opinions of this boat?

I've not sailed on this, so I will let others who are more knowlegable comment on the performance of this boat. We did however, seriously look into two 381s. What did not work for us is the lack of storage. Yes, its better than a lot of Benes but there were many, many smaller boats than this that we looked at that had more usable space.

If you are mostly day sailing or going out for a long weekend, the storage is probably adequate. If you are planning on going out for longer stetches with more than just one other person you might want to consider whether or not there is enough space for all of your needs. For two people, it will probably work. For more than that, it might get tight.

Mimsi,

Thanks for the observation.
I guess we might just have to learn to pack lightly!
