Looking to buy a used sail boat


I’ve had a Rebel 17ft 4 years and Tartan T-27 7 years

My girlfriend and I have 1 boy each 13 (6ft 160 mine) 11 5-4 130 hers)

We are looking for a trailerable sailboat around 17 ft around 700- 800 lb I think anything 16 or less will be too small for me. The Rebel was nice but got boring, I loved the Tartan. Just don't want to be tied down with a big boat stuck with Lake Erie

I want to hit the North Channel and the Finger Lakes maybe even Lake Ontario

We want to day sail no sleeping

No cabin but want a deck not like a thistle. Towing range 1 - 4 hours radius

Easy to rig I my go out by myself cockpit to hold 2 most of the time and 4 some of the time.
I'd like to race maybe down the road. I'm in the Cleveland area lots of inland lakes plus Lake Erie

I've looked at Highlanders and Flying Scots maybe too big to single set up and tow
Looking at Interlake but I think the cockpit too small no back support I could be wrong
I'm not sure about Lightning’s

Before I even got to your last paragraph, I was thinking "Flying Scot". I don't think they'd be too difficult to set-up singlehanded. Good racing fleets in various places around the country.

Another somewhat smaller but rugged design is the Wayfarer. I also like the Daysailer (DS), which is similar.

Used to sail Wayfarers and Daysailers singlehanded when I was a kid.
