Nauticat 33 - head room

Very interested in this boat but find the headroom in some areas insufficient. Has anyone been able to increase the headroom by reducing the thickness of the headliner? Any other suggestions? My husband is 5' 10" and finds insufficient headroom in the salon and aft cabin.
