What''''s your opinions? H25 or Catalina 25
I sailed a Catalina 25 (tall rig) for many years and have raced it against a Hunter 25. They both sail very well, but the Catalina is a bit faster. The Catalina has nice interior accommodations for its size. I can''t speak to the interior of the Hunter. They are both designed to be used for lake sailing and coastal cruising. Catalina 25 has one of the best owners'' websites I have ever seen for a sailboat. Check it out at catalina25-250.org/forum. You can get an unbelievable amount of information from the other owners.
Do you plan to keep the boat in the water, or will you launch it from a trailer each time you sail it? Both of those boats are a little big and heavy for frequent launching. A 22 or 23 ft. boat would be much easier to launch, retrieve and set up, but you would give up a little in interior volume.
You indicate that you want a boat for casual weekend sailing. Although I am partial to the Catalina, in truth, I would buy the best boat, in the best condition, that I could find, and I would not limit my search to those boats. There are lots of good boats out there in your price range.
