Any opinions on Sonic 23?

Hi, my wife and I are looking at a Sonic 23, and wondered if anyone had an opinion on this boat as a starter boat for beginner sailors with two small kids. We''d primarily use it as a daysailor, but figure the kids ( at least now, at 7 and 4 !) would get some use out of the cabin ( and let us concentrate on our newly devolping skills...well hopefully!) Any thoughts?

Colin,

The Sonic seems to have a nice layout. I would be a bit concerned about the pop-top but other than that seems to be a decent boat.

If looking in Halifax for a 23 foot boat you might want to broaden your search to include:
Paceship P-23 & PY-23
Tanzer 22
Parks 23 (1991 for sale in Tatamagouche)

The Tanzer is much more affordable than the Sonic as is the P-23. Both have similar interior layouts.
The Parks is very new compared to these older boats and therefore pricier. But very nice.
The PY-23 is cruisier than the others with more cabin. SunnyBrook yachts lists 2 or 3 of these.

All are nice for day sailors. You might even want to add the CS22 to that list since it comes in a centerboard/keel version for shallower areas...

Good Luck
