Cat 25 Help

I wanted to know, based on the photos first, what year this Catalina 25 is and if it looks like its in decent shape. I needed a second opinion before I went down and actually looked at it based on the pre-inspection checklist.

From the pix you attached, it's not a Catalina 25, which has a transom-mounted rudder and a fore deck that wraps around the cabin, most often equipped with a pop-top.

Is it perhaps a Tanzer? I recall that they often had a cabin structure that is faired all the way forward to the bow.

It appears to be either a Tanzer or a Cal 25. They look very similar. It's definitely not a Catalina 25.

See that is what I thought after I looked and looked for the specs and style. It looks pretty cool, i like the flat deck style and wide sides. How about the cockpit area where the transom mounted rudder is? Is that ok to be cut that low? It's cut pretty low and it would appear that there could be alot of water getting in from the aft. Also, based on the photos, do you think its in decent condition?

That is definitely a CAL 25...not a Catalina.
Don't worry about the transom. That is NOT a concern.
You can't tell the year by looking at it. Get the Hull ID # from the transom of the boat which if you stand in back of the boat looking forward will be at the top right hand side of the transom embedded in the fiberglass.
Cal 25's stopped production in 1973 so the boat is at least 35 years old. You will only find a hull ID # on those boats built in 1971-73...anything else is older by a few years...at this point it does not matter.
I can tell little from your pictures other than that she needs a lot of cosmetic work below deck and looks pretty well cared for on deck.
Use the Dawg's inspection tips whn you go down and be sure to get a survey if you go further.

Thank you for that. That helps me. Yea I am memorizing all the areas to check and heck i'm not affraid to just bring the list with me and do a good inspection. I will even go as far as to bring some goggles and go under the hull.
