Cruiser cockpit comfort

When I finally get my wife to go for a sail on a 34-36 ft. boat I am worried that she will not find the cockpit seating comfortable and to the suggestion of going into the more comfortable seating of the cabin she will object by noting that being there defeats one of my selling points-that the views, the breeze, salt air etc. are so much fun.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks.

The funny thing is that the very thing that will make your wife comfortable in the cockpit at anchor...will make her miserable at sea. And vice versa.

Big open cockpits...bad at sea. Small tight cockpits with high coaming...bad at anchor.

Good cockpit cushions that snap on.

labatt will become famous soon enough
Get one or two of these: Sport a seat - Cockpit cushions, cockpit seats, folding seats, portable seats, sailboat cushions, helm seats.. They make any cockpit with sharp angles comfortable. Don't go for the West Marina knockoffs - you can feel the interior frame within a season. We replaced our West Marine's with the Sportaseats and are now liveaboards, and they have been used quite extensively with no wear or change to the cushioning.
