Soling as first boat concerns...

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a Soling that has come available in my area. From reading a lot of infomation, mostly in this forum, the boat would be perfect for what I'm trying to do. Namely a stable, responsive daysailer that I can dry sail. Good for a beginner and simply alot a fun. Here's where my ingorance comes in... in a number a posts there are Soling sailers commenting that they wouldn't want to be out in their boats in 12-15 knot winds without a couple of big guys for hiking. Why is that necassary? Couldn't you just de-power the sails? Thanks for you input!!!

The Soling is a classic one design racer, which certainly is stable enough to handle winds to the mid 20s with proper sail adjsutments, is not a very comfortable boat. Beefy crew are nice for windy days, but I see plenty of single skippers driving Solings.
If you wont be carrying kids or novices, it may be fine for you, but otherwise you'd be better off considering a daysailer-style boat, one with seats: Sonar, Rhodes19, even a J22
