32' bayfeild highly recommended

Contrary to opinions posted by non ownwers the 32 bayfield is in fact a highly recommended vessel. having sailed this craft along the west coast of vancouver island (where relatively few persons cruise due to the large seas and sudden gales) it has proven itself well. the confiuration of 3/4 keel wth rudder attached avoids much fouling with drifting debris and crab gear particularly in the inlets. the rig is well sized for the draft and displacement for ocean work. the craft is easily driven and stable when it pipes up to 35 knots. the tankage low in the keel combined with a beam of 10 feet give a good range of stability without the need for great draught. fin keels and spade rudders with tall rigs may give greater speed however do not provide the stability of helm protection from fouling nor general handiness of rig needed for cruising in often wildly changing conditions.
the 4' draught is excellent in the often large expanses of shallow waters found in Clayoquot sound and when negotiating the many reefs a mile or two out.

the interior is large. and the galley although small is workable and easy to modify for more room. in conclusion the bayfeild is a well buit vessel and comfortable cruiser for its size. it is a low stress craft to sail and its looks are far superior to the flat sheered volatile vessels so popular with the ice cube sailors of the big city marinas.

thank you sincerely mike wright shpwright tofino bc.

When I get in a position to move I will be looking for something like that.

jrd22 will become famous soon enough
Bayfields are excellent boats, well designed and well built. My son has a 36' that I sailed on for several days offshore and I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere. He sailed it from NC to Ft. Lauderdale then to the Bahamas, back to FL then around Cuba to Panama and back to NC. All kinds of weather with only two people onboard, they never had any problems handling it.
