It all depends upon the chop your sailin' in, to my way of thinkin'. Sailed a 34ft Rue gaffed rigged 7.5 ton schooner for 12 years, when the glass boats headed in she just healed to 15 and stayerd there. From Matinecock light to the entrance of Mattituck inlet due E in one reach didn't pound once ESE 25Kts., 5'sea. Then on the Great South bay I had a 1970 Rhodes Meridian 26 ft long keel line 52 inch draft I often sailed from Patchogue to Bayshore in 3ft short chop that would get you wet but wouldn't pound. I'd look for a long Keel line, with strong sheer fwd. Keep lookin' theyre out there.
