New Beneteau 50?

Yuck. Apparently, Beneteau took the new B49, added a molded arch a la Hunter, and renamed it the Beneteau 50. I think it looks awful, but that's obviously just my opinion.

Here's a link to Beneteau's website where is shows the boat: Beneteau USA

Just makes our good looking B49 more desirable! They put that thing on the 50, 54 and 58.
There is a nice YouTube of the 58 at the Paris Boat Show BTW.

At least the Hunter arch had some worthwhile function, like on their 410 - it put the traveler back closer to the helm. With the Benetau is see no advantage. But heck, they put spoilers on cars with less than 175 hp. Go figure!!

Up until I saw the picture I was going to go out and buy one of those things.
Thanks so much for saving me all that grief, to think I almost wasted a $1/4M+ on something so hideous.
Guess I will go pay my visa bill instead.

Admit it -- you have "one-foot-itis" but you're in denial.

Maybe you could extend your swim scoop?

Yeah, you're right, don't really like the look.

But if one of you guys (or Bene) wants to give me one, I'd probably sail her.

Who is staring at the sea is already sailing a little.

I go back and forth between wanting to say I've got a 50-foot boat, and being happy to save the money on slip/winter storage fees by being able to say I'm a foot shorter. (Just kidding on all this of course.)

Joking aside, there must have been some marketing mojo on this. Our boat is the B49, but in Europe they called it the Oceanis 50. Now here in the states, they've changed from the B49 to the B50. All are the exact same boat (save for the addition of the arch). There must have been an initial view that Americans would be less likely to buy it if it were called a "50," which appears to have changed considering the new branding of the B49 with Arch as the B50. Who knows.
