Anyone know what a good offer would be on a used boat that has a asking price of 175000? How firm are broker prices?

How good an offer is depends upon the boat and the seller. I''d sell you my boat for $175k too. If I desperately needed $10,000 by Wednesday or the mob was going to rub out a member of my family, I might take less. It''s YOUR job to determine what a good offer is for the boat you''re interested in - taking into consideration make, model, year, condition, and how well it suits your needs, and what the seller will accept. Homework time!

If you look back through the archives you will find a pretty good discussion about offers and the price that you may expect to pay. Jeff H., as usual, had some good insights but there were many who contributed. Mostly it is what you think the boat is worth to you. If the seller won''t accept that, then it is not the boat for you.

Check out buc.net and do a search on yachtworld - it should give you an idea as to how real the asking price is. Sometimes they are way out of wack. This Reality unfortunately doesn''t have all that much to do with what an owner expects. Or if it is only on the market to appease the wife.

After that you get to intangibles. Some you can get out of the broker. (sometimes) how long on market has owner already bought another boat? Has price been reduced recently? Remember the broker works for the owner - but wants to get the boat sold.
