How to Sell Sailboat without A Broker?

I''d like to try to sell my 40'' 1983 C & C aft cabin racer/cruiser without a broker.
Any ideas on where to post/advertise, circulate this message would be greatly appreciated. I have it on the C & C mailing list, at the CnC Photo Album site, on a few other newsgroups and in the March issues of Gam and Boats for Sale. The boat is Halifax, Nova Scotia-based, BTW.

Most of my boats have been sold without brokers. Its easier to tell a buyer the ugly stuff right upfront. Brokers seem to wait and see if you discover it and hope you deal with it because you are so emotionally into the deal. (NOt all brokers do that). I think it was Jeff H who said the more you pay for websites that offer selling services, the less productive they are. If you do a google.com search for sailboats for sale by owner, you will get a few worthwile hits.

I also think boat location plays a big part. When I am buying, I really do not like to travel to see a boat. It complicates thiings for me.

put an ad into the publication soundings; its the largest source of boats for sale by owner that i know of.

I am also looking for a way to sell my 1991 Caliber 38LRC without using a broker. I found that in general they do not care if you get the price you want as long as the boat sells.I will try traderonline.com next

I did the following: Bought a cheap digital camera, took a dozen or so snaps of my old boat showing all views, sails, etc. and created a web page. My ISP allows a free page. The Netscape editing s/w was a snap to use (collabra) and I think is free as well. Put an ad in trader online (also free). You can''t post a web page, but can post the URL. I found that it worked like a charm, and was more effective than any print ad I tried.

You could always place a bogus post on this site asking for where one can sell a boat for free, while accidentally detailing the year make model and price of your boat... that seems to be popular these days.
