New boat survey

When buying a new prooductin boat (not pre-owned) from a dealer at a cost of $100K plus, would you get a survey?

Unless you have ABSOLUTE confidence in the dealer, yes. No boat, regardless of the manufacturer, is defect-free when new and you as the new owner, won't find them all except through trial and error.

The $600-1000 it will cost you is small potatoes in the overall budget.. the peace of mind (if everything's alright) will be worth it; If the surveyor finds some deficiencies that you may not have noticed immediately yourself, you're ahead of the game again.

Yes, you should... the recent Tartan/C&C boat issues alone should show that even brand new boats can have serious issues. In many of those cases, a good survey would have caught some of the problems before the boats left the dealer's hands.

I may be crazy and feel free to suggest this is out of line but, "Sure, I'll purchase your new factory boat for [insert boatload of money here], right after you pay for and it passes a survey by my surveyor."
