What does it mean - Out Island?

I'm sure this is a silly question, but what does the disinction of an "Out Island" boat? I have been looking at Morgan 41's and some are Out Island.

I believe the Out Island series from Morgan are all full keeled, semi-flush deck ctr cockpits with their distinctive sheer and hull-deck joint, usually with windows along the sheerline too. Many are ketches.

All the 41s on Yachtworld appear to be of the type, whether they are advertised as "OI"s or not.

Morgan did produce other boats like the Brewer-designed 38, aft cockpit boats with more conventional appeal and performance, I'd expect. Whether they produced a 41 with a different pedigree I'm not certain, but I believe that many of the newer Catalina models are based on earlier Morgan hulls.

If I remember correctly, the OI series was designed from the outset specifically for the Bahamas/ charter trade. Big room below , shallow draft, lots of suntan space. It paid off, as they were extremely popular. Good value for the money.
