Lancer 41'

Where can I find a bit more information about this boat?

1984 Lancer center cockpit Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

Kind of a different looking boat with the built in transom platform.

Slightly after the 1970's fuel crisis Lancer came out with a line of power sailors. This is one of them. They were strange boats all around. They offered power boat hulls, small sailing rigs, a mix of creative design features and mediocre build quality. They were sort of aimed at the "motor yacht" fad of the early 1980's which was displacement, lower fuel consumption power boats, with lots of room on board, mixed with a sailing rig to keep percieved fuel costs down in the wake of the fuel crisis of the 1970's. They had too much wetted surface, too much form stability, and not enough sail area or ballast stability to be good sailboats.

One thing that would I would be very concerned about is the Volvo saildrive of this era. At least on the models that I have encountered Volvo saildrives had internal water passages and these tended to result in premature corrosion failures.

While these would never be my taste in boats, I am sure that there is still a niche for boats like these as live aboards and occasional sailing or motorsailing.

Thanks for reply. That gives some great perspective. Makes sense looking at it that it is based on a power boat.

Probably not my taste either.
