a bit...shall I say tentative?

Well Monday I take a (new) to me 1979 catalina 22 home. This is my first sailboat. It was the only sailboat within 400 miles where I live so I did not have a lot to choose from. I sorta freaked the the guy out when I paid in silver bullion. All in all I think I got a okay deal. Three sails, boat, 9.9 honda and trailer with new galvy axels and bearings for 4k. The boat does not smell moldy and except for one tender spot near the deck forward cabin interface everything was solid. The iron keel was a bit pocked marked but the swing keel will make it a lot easier to haul to the lakes and on a loooong weekend to Valdez. I hope this boat is easy to learn and to sail. I am looking forward to starting this relationship off right. The old owner is going with me to take it out for a shake down cruise. I am a bit nervous!!!!!! This is a lot of responsibility!

Congratulations! The Cat 22 is a great boat. My father owned 3 Catalinas, starting with the 22. My first job, about 1973, was with the dealer that sold him the boat. So I know that vintage boat very well and Catalina did a great job; much better than many other manufacturers. You did well. I have no opinion regarding the price since I haven't done any research.

Good luck, this is a great boat for your purposes.

Thanks for the encouragement. I live in Fairbanks Alaska.....kinda far from the ocean...but only an hour or so from a lake or two!!!! I am looking forward to the first sail this sunday. The old owner has graciously consented to give me a shake down er up cruise.
