Sonic 23

has anyone had any experiences with a Sonic 23?

I looked at one today and it seems to have the lines of a Tanzer 22 but seems a lot larger cabin and laid out much better. the one I was looking at was recently surveyed and shows quite well. no problems as far as the report shows. sails are in good shape but show some stains, owner is asking 3900.00 but I was told he is open to neg but has turned down offers of 3200.00. boat includes yard cradle ( steel) and a older 9.9

Wow- last week you were looking at a Mirage 24, this week a Sonic 23.
First boat, huh? You're as unfocused as a virgin with ADHD and access to a trust fund on his first visit to a whorehouse. What, exactly, do you want to do with your sailboat? Race? Cruise? Both? What is your budget this year, including initial purchase, maintenance, mooring, and unexpected surprises? Where do you plan to sail? Who do you plan to sail with? What kind of creature comforts do you want? I say, boy, I say, focus, boy, focus!

:)

totally unfocused, yup I agree.

to be honest yes its my first purchase, I've been looking at a lot of boats to find one that is suitable for my needs and within my budget. I have a budget of 5,000.00 and want a sailboat for cruising not racing, maybe a weekend trip here or there. going to be sailing in the Atlantic coastal waters, nothing too far off shore ( most likely within sight of land). I know 5,000.00 is not a huge amount to spend on a boat but right now I'm caught between having the money to buy one and the concern about actually spending the money wisely. I really like the Mirage but I cant get my head around first time sailing on something that big but I dont want something too small either. I'm trying to find that perfect fit.

I really like the Tanzers but they are selling for same price as the Mirage, this Sonic is very similar to the Tanzers but cheaper. just looking for information to see if its a good deal or not. I have no one locally here to bounce questions off of, all my friends are power boaters and think sailing is a waste of time. two of the three yatch clubs are private memberships most of the members think that buying a used boat is below them. hard to approach them.

but thanks for the chuckle, I like that focus focus boy,, my wife would agree with that statement

somedays I feel like I could use some focus.

You can't go wrong with the Sonic 23, both an excellent racer and well appointed cruiser! Owned mine since 1983 and still love the way she handles. She can take both heavy and light wind well when equipped with the right sails. She can give alot of other boats in her class a run for their money! She is well built, actually over built! Put up her pop top and then stand on it~! Try that on a McGregor~! LOL~! Don't let the lower price scare you, condition is the factor! She is a great boat! Sail one and you'll see~! Good Luck~!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Sonic one of the best made in my opinion.
I understand you own a Sonic 23?!
I own one as well and I am hoping you can help. I lost my deck hatch overboard due to alcohol abuse by my friend. And I need to locate a new hatch.
I absolutely love this sailboat but it is proving near impossible to find a replacement. I would really like to go original but will consider other options.
Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure which hatch you are talking about. The forward hatch or the Cabin hatch? Regardless... the forward hatch is custom shaped with smoked lexan built in... not easy to find or replace... the boat was built in Canada and that's probably where
your search should begin...I will try to research it and see if I can get u some info... obviously I need mine or I would offer it to you! lol... next thing would be to make a
mold of mine and replicate it... not so easy to do! will get back to I when I have more info!

I am referring to the froward hatch and I'm sure it doesn't help that its a Canadian company that doesn't exist anymore and I live in the US lol but my plan is to either locate and buy a used one or rent one from someone and have it replicated by someone that knows what their doing. too many curves for me to do myself. are you sure you don't need yours? Lol

I appreciate your help your the only sonic owner that responded back to me within the last year.
