Have to register?
I bought a boat in Florida to take out of the country. USCG tells me any US home port I feel like lettering on the transom is OK.
If the boat is not in any state's waters except briefly then I reason no registration be required. When boarded, my federal documents should satisfy the law since I am within the grace period.
But what of the case where my randomly chosen home port has a registration requirement? Do I argue that the boat does not really reside in their state or should I choose a land locked state where there are no coasts to guard?
What of the cache' of your chosen home port? I was liking Honolulu since I've never been there until I thought through the consequence of getting boarded there.
The goal obviously is that I should not pay sales taxes or registration fees to states which provide me no services.
