Bayfield 25 or Coronado 27

Hello. I have both a Bayfield 25 and a Coronado 27. I should sell one of them. If you were in this situation which design model would you sell? They are both of equal condition.

Thanks for your input!

Depends on where you plan on sailing and what kind of sailing you plan on doing.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

You should keep the boat that you enjoy the most. I don't think someone else can answer that for you.

With all due respect for Bill Tripp--Gozzard's Bayfield 25 is far and away the superior yacht and not something I would forsake in favor of the Coronado. With the Bayfield you could roam the world if you chose to do so.

FWIW...

True, but if he's only daysailing and such, the Coronado provides a lot more room and is probably better suited for doing such.

Thanks for your replies. My goal is to cruise deep water / offshore / bluewater. I can't afford a large and blue water cruiser so I am working my way up. hopefully. I prefer a full keel and all the accessories required for deep water. I am leaning towards the Bayfield. My only concern is that is it only 25 feet and the Coronado seems more roomy at 27. From what I have read the Bayfield may be more expensive and easier to sell at a higher price when a larger boat becomes available to me. I am probably going to keep the Bayfield because I can store it on a morring with a 25 foot maximum.

So, who wants a Coronado 27. LOL.

I haven't even sailed the Bayfield yet. Will it be much more stable say if I take it to Catalina when compared to the Coronado? I did move it by motor and first impressions is that it definitely takes more to turn the thing with that full keel.

Another concern I have is the shoal keel. It is pretty shallow it seems; 2'11"? that doesn't seem very deep to me for the displacement. Thoughts? Also, the companionway seems rather low. I would probably raise it if I kept it awhile.

Thanks!

The Bayfield 25 IS a smaller boat, actually more accurately a 24 footer, the vestigial bowsprit accounts for the additional foot. It is not really a light air boat, but it is not a tender boat either, and has a reputation as a good foul weather boat. The cockpit is cramped with more than two people in it, so it isn't a party boat. I'd have no qualms about sailing one to Catalina. The Coronado is quicker, the Bayfield is tougher.
