I am sailing- I usually sail my C22 engineless. I've been sailing every weekend for the past month with my motor home in the garage!

My point is that a C22 would make a terrible trawler conversion, which the OP was considering and I'm trying to talk them out of. They sail great, but motor like crap. If I was stuck motoring a C22 with no rig all the time I'd hate it, and be seasick from the terrible motion. A C22 doesn't need a motor, but it definitely needs sails IMO.

They have all of the rigging except sails- you could probably pick up two used sails for under $100 looking hard enough. I even have an old blown out main I'd part with cheap...

Casioqv....

I don't quite understand what you are trying to convey either. There are times, albeit few, that I don't sail my C22. Instead we motor around the back rivers and sight see, explore etc. My C22 sk motors just fine; with a short shaft, 1975 Johnson seahorse 6....now in a chop it is worthless, but most outboard powered sailboats are. Usually if it is windy enough to make waves, my sails are up. As I am sure you know, the C22 is a displacement hull. It moves very efficiently at hull speed. I believe most trawlers are displacement hulls as well....I'm not trying to argue, just understand what you are saying. AR

I'm just trying to say that I don't really like how the C22 motors, and think it would be better to use the C22 as a sailboat, or sell it and get a purpose built trawler with an inboard diesel. I don't like the way it bounces around with the sails down and keel up, that the motor won't say submerged in a chop, or that small outboards are noisy and inefficient compared to inboard diesels used on purpose built trawlers.

The swing keel is also a huge maintenance item to have on a boat that doesn't even sail, but I don't think the C22 would be stable without it.

Certainly it would still work and would be cheap- maybe it would be a good solution for some people.
