FINALLY bought a boat!

I don't really know where this post should go... Boat review & purchase, Buyers & sellers, Fight club?

Anyway, after four friggin' years of looking, I have FINALLY bought a boat. Well, I have actually signed off on the YBAA "acceptance of yacht" form, so I guess that I'm comitted. I can think of several members here will probably be grateful that I'll stop askin' stoopid questions... To them I'd like to say that the questions haven't stopped, but will change in nature.

Over the course of the decision process, I considered many different boats. In fact I personally examined over 41 of them. Let me start by saying that the Boat Inspection Trips Tips thread is a great help. However, some amount of moisture is going to be present in any boat over 15 years old.

Anyway, here is a picture of the vessel in question:

Would anyone care to guess what she is?

She has new sails:

new running rigging (and crazed hatches);

new roller furler;
and even a new keel!

What I like about her is that I believe that she is structurally sound, but needs some cosmetic (the teak looks horrible) and mechanical work (there's a new freshwater pump for her sitting next to me as I type). I believe that I can handle both.

All of the boats that I looked at were mid 80s coastal cruisers (the admiral ain't gonna' cross the great blue sea with me - yet!). Some of the other vessels that I looked at were the CS 36T (loved this boat - except the V drive), Pearson 33-2, Pearson 34, Pearson 36-2, Pearson 38, Ericson 35 & 38, and Catalina 34 & 36.

I would like to thank many of you for your indulgence and assistance. A couple of names stick out in my mind - Camradarie, CruisingDad, JRP, Faster, MaineSail, and SailingDog for their help - and Smack for his encouragement.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Amen!

I just figured out the cost to prop and block, shrinkwrap, unstep the mast (required) and store this 35' boat at a Brewer yard for 5 months...

$3531.00
Ouch!
