IP 38 Keels

I understand that earlier model Island Packets were constructed using a concrete and scrap iron slurry in the encapsulated keels. Do they still use that material? If not, when did they stop? Specifically looking at IP 38s.... Have there been any issues with the earlier keels?

Idle curiosity at this point...

Dave

Dave -
I looked long and hard at numerous (9) IP38s before I bought mine. During my search I heard about and saw a couple of boats that had had issues with rudder delamination in the past, but did not find any with keel issues of any kind.

Re: materials - I toured the factory this past October and it appears that they still use iron and/or lead with concrete, then topped and sealed with fiberglass.

I guess it's a non-issue then. Probably one of those issues thas sounds worse than it really is. I sort of guessed as much when hours went by without anyone chiming in. Thanks for your response.
