Opinions on the 1989 33' Newport

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a 33' Newport made in 1989. The article says it has never been in saltwater and has only had two owners. I have never purchased a boat before but I know about getting it surveyed.

Does anyone else have any concerns over this make/model?

Also, it will be used in the Puget Sound area and would like to take into the ocean or at least around Vancouver Island. Any concerns of handling?

Thanks!
Caolan.

Hello,

The Newport 33 is a typical production type boat from the 80's. It's about average for build quality and sailing performance. I would not go on long ocean voyages, but coastal trips should be fine.

You can probably get a lot more info on the Newport email list. You can get info on that from:

One example of a possible problem would be that as a freshwater boat it may have a raw water cooled motor VS a heat exchanger motor (FWC) with antifreeze cooling the block

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat
