Marine Surveyor in NY/NJ area

HI,
Does anyone know of a good, thorough marine surveyor in the New York/New Jersey area? We are in the process of making an offer on a boat, and want to find a good surveyor to survey it for us as we all know that not all surveyors are created equal. Any leads or advice would be very helpful. Thanks!

If it were me, I'd get George Gallup to come down from Mass. Can't imagine a better one.

Re: Marine Surveyor in NY/NJ area

Goerge Gallup did a survey for me back in the first week June of this year. He collected his fee on the spot. I was there for the survey and he seemed to do a really thorough job. However, the survey did not go well and I walked away from the boat. I never received the survey, George left text messages, emails and phone calls unanswered for months, literally. At the end of August, the 28th, I received a text from George, apologizing, said somehow my email starting going to spam and my phone number got blocked on his phone. This, mind you after several, emails and phone calls back and forth setting up the survey. Here it is nearly another month and no more contact, unanswered text and emails (i tried text first as that is how he last responded to me). I'm very confused, this man's credentials are very impressive and his survey seemed very thorough, but to not receive the report is unbelievable. Whether I walked on the deal or not is irrelevant. I paid for a full survey including report. If he wants to fall short on that he should have spoken to me and asked if that was ok. which, it would not have been.

I saw this recommendation for George and I just had to ad, sadly, my experience...

Re: Marine Surveyor in NY/NJ area

I have to update my comments on Gallup Yacht services. I had sent another message yesterday through his website's contact us link. Within hours My paypal account received a full refund for the survey cost and a note saying he was out cruising, had tried to text me and he would send the survey upon his return to dry land.

In all fairness I felt it was important to update the situation. From the work he did at the vessel I was very impressed. My problems came in never having received the the full survey and the communication.
