J-30 ... I must be nuts!

Looked one over recently. They truly appeal to me. Performance. Room. Uncomplicated. Very strong construction (cored is ok and with the right tools, repairable).
Those of you who have sailed them might comment about handling. Singlehanding might be very important. An autopilot would be ok, too. Modest, short term livability (month at most) for two.
Thanks,
Mark L.

J-30 ... I must be nuts!

My brother sailed his from Seattle to Juneau, AK. Seems to have stood up well. He had to do a repair on the bulkhead due to leaking chainplates. Watch for deck delamintion (cracking, scratchy sounds - generally fixable) when you walk around. Cockpit being snug makes for easier singlehanding, as does fractional rig. With a roller-furler, you can snuff the jib and easily maintain control & steerageway with the main alone, reefed if needed. Transom-hung rudder w/tiller also KISS-friendly. Resale of known commodity also a factor for later. Sounds pretty good! Buy now!
