Sure it's a common question, but anyone with any experience here?

I just purchased a Jeanneau 409 through Sunsail to be based in Tortola. I had looked into it several years ago in Australia, but the deal wasn't so good. As i am living in France I got the Euro deal/financing and it seemed surprisingly good for my financial circumstances. Low interest, fixed income for 5 years, up to 12 weeks use a year at any base, early termination if i choose... And a good boat.

Only risk is the wear and tear. I am a sailmaker, so replacing rigging and sails on end date is something i fully expect to do. I expect the gear on the boats are first class crap...

I plan to have it paid off by mid 2012, so will cash flow positive by then and then i can chose when to take to out of service depending on my work commitments... I don't plan to keep it in for the full term, so this should minimize the wear and tear...

Anyways, be happy to hear other owner's experiences or nightmares...
