Has anyone here heard of a Windward 850 before? There's one for sale, that looks in good shape (see the linky For Sale ), but I can't find a think online, good or bad. My websearches are literally only turning up the original ad and the sponsored have-nothing-to-do-with-the-search results. Were they a really short run from a small company? If anyone could point me towards an owner's website, or if anyone knows of them, I'd be grateful.

It's a John Simpson design. The one you're considering is a real looker. i found at least one other one for sale:

I only know of him because I saw another one of his designs (Perelandra, 43' Ketch) up in Maine and it was so nice I had to google it and came across his site.
