bavaria, 2/3 cabin versions

Hello fellow sailors!

I've been browsing these forums for ages but never signed up, I have now signed up and would like to make my first post!

I've been looking at yachts around 40 foot, bavarias, hunters, jeanneau's etc. As always it's a quite complicated decision to source the correct vessel.

I have my eyes on a Bavaria 41 footer, 2 cabin version. I quite like the layout, nice big galley to starboard with a proper fridge, the 3rd berth is of cause sacrificed, but it's still big enough for 5 people. I have some questions that I would like some input on

Resale value, are 2 cabin versions more difficult to sell?
More space for storage in the starboard locker for 2 bikes etc etc?
Would it make more sense to go for the Bavaria 44 with dual wheels?
Draft? This one's draft is 2.10, I plan to sail on the south coast of England, would that be of any concern?

The yacht looks very nice, loads of equipment like radar, bow thruster, 55 HP engine, autopilot etc, appears to be almost like new even though it's 8 years old. Seems like a good deal around 75-77.000 GBP, my mayor concern is the amount of berths. I don't plan to cruise with more than 4 adults so for me it would be alright, reselling it might be a problem? What else do I have to count into my decision?

Looking forward to some responses :-)

Welcome to Sailnet!

I don't think that the 2 cabin version would be a hard sell except into the charter fleet. The reality is that few people regularly cruise with more than 4 adults, in fact probably more often with 2. A boat with more space and fewer berths is going to appeal more than the loaded-with-berths charter versions.

Sounds like the boat you're looking at is well fitted out and has been cared for. Is this a first boat? An idea of your experience level would be helpful to those wishing to offer advice and suggestions. Also just exactly what your intentions are for the boat and yourself - ie ocean passages, coastal etc. will be helpful as well.

Thanks for your reply.

No it will be my third boat. Plan to sail 2 people only so the bow thruster would be a big help moving around the marina/berthing it. It really appeals to me.

One of the things I wasn't happy with on my last boat was space for items like backup generator, bicycles, extra fuel etc, this one have all the space needed as it have a large locker outside with enough space for that.

Sailing around the UK, maybe the occasional cruise to France is the plan, but you never know :-)
