Where to register a boat?

As I start thinking more about this plan to buy a boat, I'm thinking about where I want to register it. By the time I buy, I'll be a dual US/Mexican citizen. Instinct tells me registering the boat in Mexico will be easier/cheaper than dealing with all the BS that comes with the US Govt. But I'm interested to hear from anyone with experience/recommendations on the subject.

If it matters, I don't intend to make the US home on a permanent basis again - or at least not for MANY years. Mexico has been home for over 2 years now and will probably continue to be a home base going forward.
