To buy a ''''74 Laser?

Tomorrow I am going to look at a 74 Laser that has been used in Colorado lakes. Owner says it and the sails are in good condition. The asking price, $850, includes the trailer.

Is this a good deal? This would be my first boat purchase, what should I ask? What should I look for? Does anyone know specific problems with Lasers this old?

Specific problems with Lasers this old? Older Lasers tend to have mast step problems, some mast problems at the connectors, gudgeon and pindle play and attachement problems at the transom, which are the only problems which come to mind.

Owner says the sails are in good condition. RED FLAG RED FLAG
I''ve looked at over 100 boats in my current boat search.
Most sails are rags. The crap people sail with amazes me.
Count on new sails for just about any boat you''re buying. Anything else is a gift.
Unless a 10 to 20 year old sail is good to you.
They''re rags to me.
