Fortune 30

Does anyone have any knowledge of the sailing qualities of the Fortune 30 cutter? It was designed along Friendship sloop lines by Bob Fortune and Stan Huntingford and built in Vancouver B.C. in the 70's. They were moulded by Coopers and finished by various outfits including several homebuilts from hull & deck kits.

I know about the design and variable construction but I'd like some input from anyone who has sailed one.

That's a fairly rare boat... you may not be lucky enough to find an owner or a past owner here.

I've not sailed one, so can't help you there. All I can say is that you'll be motoring quite a bit in our typically light air summer season, esp in upper Georgia Strait or Desolation.(but everybody does....)

However reaching across to Porlier Pass in a typical NW would be a blast.

Thanks Faster - you have certainly described our local conditions accurately!

I 'll be crewing on a friends Hunter 38 from Thunderbird over to Thetis for the Hunter rendezvous this weekend so maybe we'll get that great beam reach to Porlier you mentioned - that boat is a reaching fool.

As to the Fortunes rarity, there usually seem to be some for sale around here - there is one with a Bukh diesel in Coal harbour for less than 10K right now.

A workmate at IBM downtown built one of the first - that was what first got me interested in sailing but he took off for Pago Pago in it before I got a sail on it.
