Sorry, can't help with the type, but "Good first-time project"? Hmmmm. My first thought is that a good first time project is the kind that nobody would do once they know what's involved!
They could have taken some better pictures for you there.

Do you have the title? I would think you could get the HIN off the title or off the boat, and tell the make from there (if the boat was made post 1973 IIRC)
