I am getting down to short strokes to buy a 48 foot sailboat in Florida providing Hurricane Irene co-operates. I am canadian and wish to register vessel in Canada which I understand is similar to US documentation. This will be a private sale, usual subject to's, no broker.
Considering using Coast Guard Vessel Documentation & Boat Registration - MarineTitle.com to facilitate transaction. Has anybody used this service or have any advice?

More curious than anything, but does the vessel not have a current Florida title?

I would suppose so. Looking into that now.

Maybe the semantics are wrong.what I am inquiring about refers to available services to facilitate transaction.

Titling versus Documenting
 

Couple of things: As a Canadian, even if a full time lawful U.S. resident, you cannot _document_ the boat as US. You can purchase it, get title, even get state stickers to legally have the boat reside and sail in a state, but not documentation.

Even if the boat never travels to Canada, you can do Canadian documentation (which, confusingly from an American perspective, is called registering):

The two exercises are distinct. Legally owning and operating a boat in a given jurisdiction (mostly about paying taxes and fees) versus documenting/registering (mostly about certain legal rights in international waters and other countries).

Thanks for input,I don't seem to be clear in what I am asking. I am looking to contract a "recommended" agency or service to facilitate buying a privately sold sailboat in Florida. The goal is to having it flagged and registered to a Canadian port of registry. I am a citizen of Canada and entitled to register it as such. I just want to get through the red tape. In my original question I was asking if the services provided by Coast Guard Vessel Documentation & Boat Registration - MarineTitle.com. were recommended or was there any other suggestions.

I doubt an American company can register a boat in Canada. It's not hard to do yourself.

So then their is 2 parts.
1) Get vessel under contract which I presume involves purchase agreement/title search/lien search/deposit held by third party/passing of subjects/clearing liens/final payment in exchange for documents supporting ownership transfer.
2) Obtain Canadian registration. In theory the easy part.

What you are asking for is what you were hoping to avoid- a broker.

Nothing against brokers but in this case it ain't gonna happen. For 25-30 grand difference I'll struggle through.
