Pearson 39
Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on a Pearson 39? I am looking at a well maintained ''71 model to use as a Key''s cruiser/liveaboard this winter and have not been able to find much about their quirks or drawbacks. Any info would be appreciated!

I know this is old but it fits my situation. I am looking at a Pearson 39 and would like some help from people that know the boats abilaties and or disabilities.

I've had a 76 Pearson 39 for 15 years and just had a new Yanmar installed along with new roller furling main and jib, shaft, prop, dripless, hot water heater, windlass, wiring, head, dodger and lifelines. The boat is a great boat. Like any boat, it has things that you may want to modify. The only thing in which i question the real quality of the boat is the "dinky" centerboard winch that is installed. I don't use the centerboard much so it is not a big deal. Had a Westerbeke W 50 which was a good engine, but after 30 some years just got tired. Tried to get it rebuilt but parts are a gigantic problem. If you buy an old 39, make sure the engine was maintained properly.
